Well SAT's are underway. The children have been working really hard!
In English we looked at the structure of a story. We talked about the build up and the problem in a story. By adding how the character is feeling it really adds some extra depth. We did a quick recap of fractions, time and addition and subtraction methods. We looked at how plastic is made. We talked about recycling materials so that less plastic ends up in landfills. We also looked at how sand can be heated to make glass. We finished reading the novel The Witches by Roald Dahl so we are now starting to watch the movie. Children are noticing the props, camera angles, music and costumes used in the film. Have a look at our science learning this week. The children conducted a fair test. They investigated whether objects could stretch, twist, bend or be squashed. Can you guess what they were testing in some of the photos? Maths: I hope you enjoyed watching some of the videos that the children made. We looked at applying our maths knowledge in word problems. English: We wrote a story about a magic paintbrush this week. All children took them home in their folders. If you get a chance you can get your child to re-write their story to make improvements. We also have been doing Guided reading this week. Have a look at this Thumberlina comprehension. Read the question and look for the key words. Media Magic: We looked at different camera angles and watched the clip of the Witches to see if we could spot any. We also noticed that the music built the tension in the scene.
Please find in your child's folder the practice SAT's papers we have done this week.
We have done a maths and Reading SAT's paper this week. We went through some of the misconceptions that the children may have come across and corrected them. Reading: First read the text. Then read the question. Think about the key words in the question. e.g. Why did Rose climb the cliff? After read the text again and look for these words (scanning) Finally answer the question. DO NOT HAND YOUR BOOKLET TO YOUR TEACHER UNTIL YOU HAVE HAD A SECOND LOOK. We will be studying capacity so if you have any empty containers can you please send them into school?
Ideally we would like a variety of different shapes and sizes. Thanks :) Here are some activities that you can do to encourage writing over the holiday.
